About me
Nawal Benabdallah is an architect and holds a PhD in Geography, specializing in "Environmental Management and Sustainable Development". A graduate of the National School of Architecture in 2000, she worked as an independent architect for nearly twenty years. In 2016, she obtained her doctorate from the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences of Rabat (FLSHR), under a UNESCO Chair at the Center for Geographic Studies and Research (CERGEO). From 2018 to 2020, she was a visiting lecturer at the National School of Architecture (ENA) and the Royal Institute for Executive Training (IRFC). Since 2020, she has been a professor at the International University of Rabat (UIR) and a researcher at the Urban Innovation and Heritage (UIH Lab) laboratory. In 2022, she founded and now leads the "African Cities In Transition" research team at the UIR's Center For Global Studies (CGS). Her research focuses on sustainable and health-promoting urban planning, urban renewal, appropriation of public space, new urban forms in development projects, and the transition of African cities. She actively contributes to scientific publications and activities both nationally and internationally, with a particular emphasis on architecture, urban planning, environment, society, and innovation in the African context.
